The Tram Tracks Cowl knitting pattern is from my range of Skill-building knitwear designs. I design the range for knitters looking for a stress-free way to build on their current knitting skills and write the patterns in my 'Tutorial Style'. They have lots of detail – you really can’t get lost!

Part of my Tutorial style knitting pattern range for knitters eager to gain knitting skills and techniques in a stress free-way, the ‘Tram Tracks Cowl’ is designed for good beginner knitters eager to knit their first garment ‘in the round’ – without the stress!

The knitting pattern guides you through knitting your first patterned garment without any stress. You will need to know how to Knit well, but really the cowl is just a long tube, knitted round and round on circular needles. Everything is covered, from using circular needles to cast-on and joining in the round to washing and blocking after casting off is covered in the knitting pattern, both in words and through links to videos.

The pattern has separate sections for each step of the knitting process, so you'll know exactly where you are at all times. There are tick-lists for tracking every row and links to YouTube videos when needed.

Designed for Mille Rêves en Laine by my much loved but sadly departed friend, Gillian Cooper. The cowl uses DK weight yarn and 5mm circular needles – perfect for knitters taking the leap into knitting a patterned garment.

Everything you need to know is explained simply  to guide you in your knitting journey.  There are video links for you to learn from too!
There's a very clear 'Abbreviations' section to guide you through the new stitches.

The Cowl

The Tram Tracks Cowl is a DK weight cowl which makes it a warm cowl. Designed to be worn ruffled around the neck, you can adapt the length of the cowl so that you can pull it up around your face, (as seen in the photograph), or even to pull it up over your head like a snood.  You will need between approx 100g or around 230 Metres for the normal length cowl - more if you want to make it longer. There is no shaping to worry about and you only need to know how to knit and purl, Everything else is thoroughly explained or shown to you in the written pattern.

The shape of the cowl is just a long tube, knitted round and round on circular needles – you will be knitting a form of ribbing, but with a twisted, (mock cable) stich added in occasionally.

Each new section of knitting has its own space in the written pattern, with tick-lists for tracking progress.
